I’m starting a residential cleaning service. I went and got some business cards and I plan going door to door passing them out. Any other suggestions?

I would make flyers rather than leaving business cards on the door.
You can get more information on a flyer. I would also obtain insurance and get become bonded (both from any insurance agent). That makes you look more legit and people will hire you more often.
You might want to include some sample pricing. Such as Clean bathrooms, vacuum, dust and mop floors staring at $39.00 (or whatever price you come up with).

Direct mail is far and away your best bet.
You could run a coupon offer in your local direct mail magazine, if any are available in your area.
Or you could do a solo postcard mailing to the most affluent homeowners in your trade area.

referral coupons or special gift (percentage off) to the person who made the referral
a percentage off on business cards
email flyer out to friends and family to hang up in offices
write an article about a how-to in your field. ex: natural products to use for cleaning and submit it to your local newspaper for company recognition
fliers with a pocket on the bottom for your business cards… also maybe attaching something to the business cards.. sticker… etc
wear your business name on your t-shirt and give some away for others to wear… sticker for your car
guarantee your service
network with realtors, property managers, etc
